About the role
We are looking for a Senior Java Backend Engineer – Azure & Kubernetes who enjoys building modern, scalable, and reliable cloud-native applications using Java, microservices, Azure, and Kubernetes.
You will be part of a highly collaborative engineering environment where you will design and deliver complex backend services, contribute to architecture and technical direction, and take end-to-end ownership of services running in production.
The ideal candidate combines strong hands-on engineering skills with architectural thinking, operational ownership, and a passion for mentoring engineers and continuously improving technology, processes, and ways of working.
Here's what you'll focus on:
Design, develop, deploy, and operate cloud-native backend services end-to-end.
Build scalable and resilient microservices using Java 11+.
Translate business and technical requirements into robust, maintainable, and cost-effective technical solutions.
Contribute to architecture decisions and technical direction for complex systems and critical components.
Develop and maintain APIs and distributed services using modern cloud-native patterns.
Work extensively with Microsoft Azure services, containers, and Kubernetes.
Take complete ownership of services across the software lifecycle, including development, testing, deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and production support.
Ensure high standards of code quality, reliability, security, scalability, performance, and maintainability.
Lead code reviews and technical discussions and establish engineering best practices.
Design and implement effective unit testing and Test-Driven Development (TDD) practices.
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and support production deployments.
Identify and address technical debt, architectural risks, reliability issues, and opportunities for modernization.
Promote operational excellence through monitoring, logging, troubleshooting, automation, and continuous improvement.
Mentor and guide junior and mid-level engineers and actively share technical knowledge.
Collaborate with cross-functional and international teams in an Agile/Scrum/SAFe environment.
Consider customer value, operational impact, scalability, security, and cost when making technical decisions.
Contribute to engineering standards, technical strategy, and the wider engineering culture.

You are an experienced software engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems and taking ownership of systems beyond just writing code.
You are comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with other engineers, architects, product teams, and stakeholders.
You actively participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, technical design, and production troubleshooting. You are willing to challenge existing approaches constructively and introduce improvements that increase engineering quality and business value.
You have a strong understanding of distributed systems and microservices and are comfortable working with cloud technologies, containers, CI/CD, and production systems.
As a senior engineer, you are also expected to mentor others, share knowledge, and help raise engineering standards across the team.
Additional Required Competencies
8+ years of professional experience in backend software development.
Strong hands-on experience developing production-grade applications using Java 11 or higher.
Strong experience with Microservices architecture and distributed systems.
Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and cloud-native application development.
Experience with Azure services such as:
Azure Functions
Azure Virtual Machines
Azure Containers
Azure Storage Queues
Azure API Management (APIM)
Azure Cosmos DB
Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes and containerized applications.
Practical experience with JUnit and Test-Driven Development (TDD).
Strong understanding of DevOps practices and complete lifecycle ownership.
Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines in production environments.
Strong experience with Git and modern source-control practices.
Experience with certificate lifecycle management, including certificate renewal, rotation, deployment, and security considerations.
Practical experience working in Agile development environments, including Scrum, SAFe, Kanban, or similar methodologies.
Strong understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns, clean code, and SOLID principles.
Good understanding of security concepts relevant to cloud and backend applications.
Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
